It’s June 2017. So, where are we with the healthcare situation? Well, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) remains the law of the land—-and it remains under assault by a political group which has the majority in the U.S. House, U.S. Senate, and the White House!!! A very unpopular repeal bill has been grudgingly passed by the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate continues to try to get its members to pass a new repeal and replace plan—-“FAT CHANCE” at this time. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continues to try to work his magic in leading the Republican Senate herd in the idea of repeal and replace, to the anguish of many on both sides. After all, to some, this was supposed to be over with—done. To others, this is coming too close to a situation in which millions are going to be, “dumped” from their health coverage.
So, the ACA remains under fire, but it has not been cooked to a crisp. It remains as a solid block being resistant to melting. And maybe that is for the best. Why? Because I believe that many people have forgotten that some who put together the ACA had its original intent to be as a temporary agent until a single payer system covering all Americans could be put into place. With that in mind, the ACA is supposed to constantly be under fire in order to see where changes need to be made, and to allow time to craft an acceptable single payer system. If your belief is that healthcare is a right and not a privilege, then you might consider the positives of letting the ACA keep slowly cooking away as the all covering plan gets done. Interesting huh!!
